Seriously.....It's April already?????????
"Time Flies When You're Having Fun"....or is it "Time Flies When you're too busy to notice"? One of these days I'm going to blink and TJ will be 18 and heading to college and Baby Chris (which he will still be called) will be terrorizing me with his antics. Yes I can already foresee my youngest child giving me pre-mature gray hairs. Heck, why not? I did it to my Mother. Isn't that just what the youngest child does?
There are times in this crazy life of mine that I am overwhelmed with love for my kids. My two boys are the absolute joy of my life. They are just starting to really come into their own and develop their personalities. I remember looking at both of them when they were babies and wondering who they were. What kind of person was behind that little tiny wrinkled head? Is he going to be athletic? Musical? Will he be stubborn like Dad? Or layed-back like Mom? I couldn't wait then to get to know my kids. I still feel like I'm still just scratching the surface of who they really are - I guess they are still trying to figure it out too.
TJ surprises me constantly will the stuff that comes out of his mouth. He had a conversation with Tom the other day that went something like this:
TJ: "Dad I'll let you button my pants because I love you."
Dad: "Thanks T, I love you too."
TJ: "But Dad I don't like it when you yell at me"
Dad: "Well, we yell at you TJ because we love you and don't want you to get hurt."
TJ: "But Dad, sometimes my brain just needs a drink."
WHAT????? That conversation was making perfect sense up until the last sentence. Tom and I still laugh about this - and still have yet to figure out what on earth he was talking about.
Chris is proving to be quite the little athlete. At 2 yrs. old, he is obsessed with golf (and a lefty to boot) He will hit a golf ball in the front yard for hours - and can really smack it. You tell him to keep his eye on the ball and he'll hit it dead on - every time. He's even taken to watching golf on TV with Papa Pete. Pete is in heaven. I came in the other day and the two of them were sitting on the couch very intently watching a tournament. After one of the golfers (I have no idea which one) missed a put, Chris yelled "AAHH He missed it!" I couldn't believe he was watching so intensely.
I dream of some day not be a slave to my salary and be able to spend as much time with my boys as I possible can. Because as we all know - Time Flies!!!

My life of laundry piles, dirty dishes, toys on the floor and toothpaste on the bathroom sink is being ravaged by a little blue box hanging on my door knob. I know that in order to sell the house, we must allow people to actually see it. Which of course means my drop-my-clothes-on-the-floor-leave-dishes-in-the-sink-and-worry-about-laundry-tomorrow life is over. This is an excellent exercise for me - who has always despised cleaning. My children, however, are not cooperating......
Chris has taken to carrying his hotwheels in a bucket everywhere he goes: church, Barb's, the doctors, he even sleeps with the bucket next t0 his pillow. Not surprisingly, the cars never stay in the bucket. Our living room floor has become a mine field of sharp little metal deathtraps. I have pulled hotwheels out of the dog's dish, found an entire parking lot under the couch, and saved one from being flushed down the toilet. Then there is Mr. Potato Head - who mocks me with his bright colored lettering on the front of his carrying case yelling "OVER 40 PARTS INSIDE!!!! Brilliant...who's idea was it to give that as a Christmas gift? Oh right, it was mine. Earlier tonight, just as I finished putting the little spud and all his body parts back in their case for at least the 3rd time, I turned around to find Chris dumping the Lincoln Logs on the floor - along with his hot wheels, 2 puzzles and some random playing cards he found. I liked the baby toys much better - the ones that had no removable parts for fear the child might swallow them. My kids aren't eating any of their toys - they are just wreaking havoc on my living room! Even the stuffed animals TJ has in his room create a mess. TJ performed a biopsy on one of his stuffed monkeys and I've been finding white fluff all over his room for weeks.
I guess prospective buyers are just going to have to see past a little dust and dog hair and be gratefull they didn't step on the Chris' turbo racer or Mr. potato head's eyeball.

Treading Water
I am writing this morning to purge myself of some negative, self-pitying thoughts that are consuming me. I will spill them out onto this page and be done with them.....
Tom and I made several bad decisions a few years ago. It started with listening whole-heartily to the wrong people and not taking the smart advice of the right people. That' is when we stepped into owing/operating Tapas restaurant. From there, we made a further disastrous decision by leasing-to-own and eventually buying our current house. We have since sold the restaurant, but in order to do this - we lumped all the debt and, essentially, all the bad decisions into this house. So now we are selling the house.
All of this is important because I have been told and believed for a long time that Tom and I just had bad luck. If anything could go wrong - it would. So Last night, just when I was starting to feel really good about the direction we were heading with our future financially, our bathtub leaked and flooded our entire laundry room downstairs. Most likely the ceiling and the bathtub will have to be replaced. Financial emergency - Again. But I am writing this to remind myself of a few things: 1) God is in control now. For the first time ever I have turned my finances over to him and I know he will take care of me. 2) This directly relates to decisions we made 5 years ago. Tom and I are still dealing with those same rash decisions that we made so long ago.
However, this is a light at the end of this long tunnel. I truly believe that with the sale of the house (once we repair it) that we will be saying goodbye to our old way of decision making for good. We will literally close the door on a chapter in our lives that brought upon much stress and anguish -which was entirely self-inflicted. I am so ready to start this life that it's killing me. But again, I remind myself that God is in charge, and learning patience is part of the process. So I will continue to plug along and tread water until his plan for us is revealed.....but I can still pray that it comes sooner rather than later!
